Overview of the Chakra System

Chakra is the Sanskrit word for wheel. Traditionally it signifies one of seven basic energy centers in the etheric body. The etheric body is also known as aura or energy body. If we were able to see the chakras (as some do) we would see spinning wheels of energy. Each chakra correlates to bodily functions, organs, levels of consciousness, colors, sounds and so much more. Each chakra has its own purpose and is connected to our being on a number of levels: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. On a physical level each chakra is connected with an endocrine system as well certain body parts. Through modern physiology we can see that these seven chakras correspond exactly to the seven main nerve ganglia which emanate from the spinal column. The chakras begin at the base of the spine and finish at the top of the head. They are located on both the front and back of the body and work through it regulating our energy body.

For example: The Heart Chakra governs the thymus gland and it’s also in charge of the functioning of the heart, lungs, bronchial system, lymph glands, immune system as well as the arms and hands. The color green is associated with this chakra, as is the sound "Yam" and the musical note of "F". Essential Oils associated with the Heart are Rosemary, Peppermint, Clove, Helichrysum (Essential Oil Desk Reference)

If there are disturbances in our chakras it is evident in the chakras vitality level. The chakra may stop spinning therefore interfere with the flow of universal energy. Medical science has proven that toxins including negative thoughts, chemicals in our foods, unfavorable environmental factors affect our well being. Consistent exposure to toxins can cause imbalances in our chakra system which can lead to physical manifestations of dis-eases. When our energies are blocked by toxins our physical bodily functions may be affected as well as our thought processes.

In our fast paced world we can forget about the interdependence needed to establish a sense of balance and harmony. Our chakra system is very much interdependent. When all energy centers are communicating and working together you have a sense of well being. Each chakra is stimulated by its own color. The chakra colors are like the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet (or white). The brightness of the energy wheels varies from individual to individual as well as being influenced by one’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual state. Imbalances in the chakras may have profound effects on our sense of good health and well being. Reiki is very effective in balancing our Chakra System. Reiki heals and restores by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field. The entire chakra system is then charged with positive energy. Reiki raises the vibration level (frequency) of the energy field in and around the physical body. With the energy pathways cleared our life forces can flow freely.
